Little test (again). Sorry for the quality.

Based on a screenshot. (His right arm is missing, it’s normal).
The problem is that I am terribly insecure and it shows; there is a sort of shyness that is reflected through the lines, it’s a little worrisome.

Realistic proportions are too delicate to draw, we cannot afford mistakes, and the caricatural style is just as constraining because it requires a certain audacity.

It’s hard.

(I hope I’m wrong).

Some comments about Blackwall (Haven/pre-revelations):

“I met Warden Blackwall. Seems to be a good man.” (a guy in the Haven tavern)

“I am very pleased you joined us, Warden Blackwall. We need strong, righteous warriors-now more than ever.” (Cassandra)

“It’s just … all that niceness …” (Varric comparing Blackwall to Sebastian)

“He seems to be a good man.” (Leliana)

You could’ve been one of the Chargers, Blackwall. You’ve got the
stature, the attitude.” (Bull, and we all know how much he values and
respects his men)

“He’s … too good, right ?” (Sera)

“Ah, you must mean Blackwall. Good man” (Giles)

(non-exhaustive examples)

No one knows his past at this stage of the game.

It’s
clear from the beginning, everyone can see it: he’s a good man.
it’s obvious and it remains so throughout the story: Thom is a serious,
decent and righteous person.

We only see his personality, as he truly is.

“Thom Rainier was shown mercy when none was deserved, and set on a path
of redemption. This gift, so compassionately given, needed to be shared.
Freed from his obligations to the Inquisition, Rainier travelled
Thedas, giving hope to the condemned and the forgotten. In the deepest
prisons and pits of Thedas, he found, if not goodness itself, its
potential. By showing faith in those who had none, Rainier lifted them
up and made them into something better than they were.

And always by his side was the woman he loved. Held up as the
inspiration for change in Rainier himself, and across all Thedas, her
legend continued to grow.”

Thom Rainier’s epilogue (pardoned, romanced)

Artworks: Matt Rhodes

“Drops of rain glistened on the griffon medallion grasped tightly in Blackwall’s hand. ‘The silverite wings of valor. They mean nothing’.

He flung the medal to the cold uncaring ground. ‘You don’t know what I’ve done! You. Don’t. Know. Me.’

*Sighs* So romantic.

Trespasser DLC end Credits – Cassandra reads Varric’s book.

Dorian:  “Here we go again. What a change of pace from the Winter Palace.  A clear sky, a beautiful view, and…yes! Fields and fields of stripweed as far as the eye can see!”
Thom:  “How do you know that?”
Dorian:  “Terrible stuff. Looks like grass, stings like a knife, and causes sores if you so much as brush against it. So of course everyone in Minrathous insists “it makes a very decent tea.” “
Iron Bull:  “You bring your handkerchief?”
Dorian:  “I’m not allergic.”
Iron Bull:  “You always say that, and a half-hour later, you’re taking mine.”
Dorian:  “Amatus, can you not fuss like an old— *sneezes* ”
Iron Bull:  “Aha!”
Dorian:  “Let’s move on, shall we?”

-Dorian Pavus, Iron Bull and Thom Rainier party banter (Elven Mountain Ruins, Trespasser)

First of all, I haven’t drawn a thing in 15 years so the result is awful and it’s normal. I have a strong desire to draw Blackwall+my Inquisitor, first in pencil and maybe later with a tablet. I’ll probably do it again, taking my time (I was a little anxious here).

Note: the quality is horrible, I apologize. it’s hard to take photos with a webcam ^^
