do you have any opinions on the amount of hate Blackwall gets? and it’s like, to the people who hate him, he can never be redeemed or be a decent person.

dalishious:

DON’T EVEN GET ME STARTED LIKE

The thing that really gets me the most about all that

Is that this is most often from the same people that are fawning over fucking Cullen. The man who is basically the best example of how to not write a redemption arc, whereas Blackwall is a good example of one done well IMO.

Blackwall has heavily reflected on what he’s done wrong, he does everything in his power to seek atonement, and if he survives (which he is even very ready to not to, in fact if the Inquisitor didn’t step in than’s what would have happened) he goes out searching for his former soldiers to explain and apologize. They don’t accept it, because that’s called being realistic, and you can’t tell me he even expected any different, but he does it anyway. Unless you make him continue his lie, against his wishes, he either becomes a real Grey Warden like he pretended to be for so long, or travels as himself doing good and saving people.

I’m gonna be real honest here: I consider Blackwall to be one of the best, most consistently written, and well thought-out characters in DA:I.

He’s not some boring old man fandom paints him as. He has a good sense of humour, (seriously where did the notion of him being a stick-in-the-mud even come from he has some of the wittiest banter of them all), he is loyal as hell to a good Inquisitor, dedicated, and he’s like the Dad Friend of the group (especially with Sera and Cole), and his romance has all the soapy drama as Solas’ but with a happy ending

Anyway Blackwall is pretty great.
