i know a lot of people didn’t take blackwall as a constant companion in inquisition thus didn’t get to know him very well but dear fic writers of the dragon age universe, here’s a smol tip for you: he isn’t a bad tempered old man. he isn’t a lonely letch. he’s not ignorant, or slovenly, or slobbish. he’s overly cautious, quietly pious, well educated, a secret romantic, is easily embarrassed, stand-offish, has very low self esteem and little regard for his own life despite a sort of borderline self-obsession, socially awkward, and has a very good and sometimes silly sense of humor. he was something of a lothario in his rainier days (”you know a lot about girls” plus a good bit of his sera and bull banters) and has a naturally submissive inclination, for the filth-merchants among us.

he and dorian snipe at each other to the point they both realise they’ve went too far, at which point they genuinely apologise, and even have a sort of respectful regard for each other. he doesn’t hate him or want to hurt him. he’s wary and suspicious of cole at first, but comes to have an almost fatherly interest in him. they support and help each other a lot, he doesn’t hate him or call him demon. the wiki doesn’t have all the party banters (youtube ought to have the rest) but i do recommend having a quick glance over them because he is probably the most consistently written out of character companion for inquisition i see in fics.
